This late spring, Porter Public Library will again be taking part in the Big Library Read, sponsored by OverDrive. The WPPL OverDrive website is your place to go for eBooks and eAudiobooks in many different formats. If you are new to eBooks, or want guidance on how to use Overdrive, the staff at our Popular Materials desk are always willing to give a helping hand. There are also many pamphlets available there that will help with different kinds of readers and tablets.
So what is the Big Library Read? This is an occasion where an author has made a book available to all participating libraries and their users simultaneously. The goal is to have as many people read the book and then have discussions on it after. It isn’t often you can have hundreds and thousands of people reading the same book at the same time from one library.
This time the book we are reading is a cool, cozy, first-in-a-series mystery, A Pedigree to Die For, by Laurien Berenson. From the book description:
“The apparent heart attack that killed kennel owner Max Turnbull has left seven pups in mourning, and his wife Peg suspecting foul play. But the only evidence is their missing prize pooch—a pedigreed poodle named Beau.
Enter Melanie Travis. With her young son happily ensconced in day damp, the 30-something teacher and single mother is talked into investigating her uncle’s death—unofficially, of course. Posing as a poodle breeder in search of the perfect stud, Melanie hounds Connecticut’s elite canine competitions, and finds an ally in fellow breeder Sam Driver. But her affection cools when she’s put on the scent of Sam’s questionable past . . . and hot on the trail of a poodle-hating neighbor and one elusive murderer who isn’t ready to come to heel.”
Everyone is welcome to take part in the Big Library Read, though at the very least a home computer with Internet is necessary. If you have an eReader but no home Internet, you are welcome to come download the tile or other titles here at Westlake Porter Public Library using our free wireless Internet. The title will be available in eBook form, with the choice of Kindle, Adobe EPUB, and OverDrive Read (requires a constant connection).
The Big Library Read starts on June 3 and runs through June 18. You should be able to download the eBook any time during that period for the regular 3 week checkout. The book will be featured on our OverDrive homepage for easy access. Happy Reading!
