Author Donald Westlake died on 12/31

Donald Westlake, the so-called "Neil Simon of the crime novel," died on 12/31/08 while vacationing in Mexico. He wrote more than 90 books in his career.

He was known for incorporating comedy and slapstick in to traditional crime novels. In 1993, he was named Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America.
