Kathy Fern Receives 2016 Myrna Chelko Award

Congratulations to Kathy Fern, a Book Nook and Book Sale volunteer who received the 2016 Myrna Chelko Award on March 6 at the Volunteer Recognition ceremony. Kathy is known for her friendly demeanor, whether helping Book Nook customers locate specific titles or improving service and organization in the Book Nook.

Kathy not only works one or two shifts a week at the Book Nook, she also helps manage and sort the donations, often stopping by when she is not scheduled to see if there's anything that needs to be done. Kathy and her fellow volunteers are the reason the Book Nook netted over $38,000 for the library in 2015.

Library Receives $100,000 Gift from Friends

Friends and New Storytime area

The Friends of Westlake Porter Public Library announced it gave over $100,000 to the library in 2015. The organization’s members raised the funds through used book sales, the library gift shop, a trees & wreaths silent auction, and an annual book sale. The group also donated thousands of volunteer hours throughout the year.

Westlake Porter Public Library used a majority of the gift for building renovations and updates in 2015-2016. The remaining funds went towards providing all of the library’s programming, such as Science Week, National Library Week, and the adult & youth Summer Reading programs.
