There are a lot of sporting events being held in the Cleveland area this summer and fall, many of them attracting an international field of participants.  In chronological order, here are some activities that might be worth a look.

May 22-25 - 2013 MAC Baseball Tournament

Eight teams will compete for the Mid-American Conference Baseball Championship at All-Pro Freight Staduim in Avon, Ohio.  http://www.mac-sports.com/Championships/Baseball2013.aspx

May 29 - U. S. Soccer Men's National Team vs. Belgium - 8 pm

This is only the third time that the U.S. team has appeared in Cleveland - it will be a tune-up for the upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.  You can see the game at First Energy Stadium - Home of the Cleveland Browns (Cleveland Browns Stadium works better for me!).

July 4-7 - Continental Cup International Youth Sports Festival

This is the 8th year for this festival, whose vision is to create a large, vibrant annual civic event that celebrates internationalism, youth diversity, and sportsmanship.  Young athletes from all over the world will participate in Soccer, Baseball, Basketball, and Volleyball tournaments. July 19 - August 1 - 2013 National Senior Games

Organized in 1985 and held every other year for men and women over the age of 50, this event was founded in part to motivate active adults to lead a healthy lifestyle.  In 2011, over 10,000 athletes participated in 18 events - this year there will be 19.  Follow this link for more information: http://www.nsga.com/2013-national-senior-games.aspx

September 21 - Cleveland Classic - 1 pm

This annual event showcases two historically black college football teams - the match-up this year features Winston-Salem State vs. Tuskegee at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

A great place for information on local sports events is The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission - http://www.clevelandsports.org/

Don't forget the Cleveland Indians, currently sitting at the top of the AL Central Division.  They also boast a record of 7-1 against Cy Young winners.  Go Tribe!

The Cleveland Browns have begun practicing - currently they're holding Organized Team Practices (OTAs) - the remainder of that schedule is May 21-23, May 28-30, and June 3-6.  Their mandatory Mini Camp will be held June 4-6, with practice for the preseason and regular season beginning July 27.  The first preseason game is at home against St. Louis on Thurs. Aug. 8.

Here are other notable events - a little farther from home.

Indianapolis 500 - Saturday, May 26 - 97th running.

French Open (Tennis) - May 26-June 9.

Memorial Golf Tournament - May 30 - June 2, hosted by Jack Nicklaus in Dublin, Ohio

Belmont Stakes - June 8 - no Triple Crown winner again this year.

U. S. Open Golf Tournament - June 13-16, Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, PA.

Hope you find an event or tournament you'd like to go see!
