As part of audiobook month (June, that is), Sync is providing free audiobooks to teens for the summer. Click on the image on the right. On Sync's website, free selections are available on the left-hand column.
Titles are available mp3 format, so they will play on anything, and have a checkout term of 7 days.
Titles are provided via Overdrive: you will need Overdrive Media Console for your Windows/Mac computer, and a wide range of mobile devices.
Two new titles -- one young adult and one classic -- will be available each week.
In ebook news, if you are interested in a Barnes & Noble Nook HD or HD+ tablet, there's good news and bad news. The good news is, boy can you get a deal on them until the end of the year. Why? Well, that's the bad news. Barnes & Noble has announced that it will stop manufacturing the Nook HD/HD+ tablets, and will sell off its current stock of devices through the upcoming holiday season.
The company remains committed to the black and white Nook Simple Touch, according to the story above. Also, it will work with third-party manufacturers on future tablets.
Why is Barnes & Noble doing this? The Nook division posted terrible finances in the last quarter. Sales of devices are way down.
If you already have a Nook tablet, the company says it will continue to support the devices.
