This intertwining of fairy tales, suspense, and mystery is the second novel by writer Carol Goodman, published in January 2003.  Though it has aged a little, it is still an enticing read, and winner of the 2003 Hammett Prize, given by the International Association of Crime Writers, North American Branch (IACW/NA) each year since 1991 to a Canadian or US citizen or permanent resident for a book in English in the field of crime writing.

This book is the first in the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, and was published a few years ago in 2011.  I had the privilege of meeting the author when she visited another area library in 2012 around the release of the second book, Shadow of Night.  I had been pulled into the book by online reading group friends at the time, so I was very excited to meet her and hear her speak.  I was not disappointed, and left with a great picture with the author and a signed trade paperback of A Discovery of Witches
