New Picture Books 5/18/09

Have you started counting down the days until Summer? The Youth Service staff is preparing for our 2009 summer reading program. This year's theme is Porter's Birthday Bash!!! We are planning programs, making decorations, wrapping gifts and finding new favorite stories to share. I would like to share the gift of reading with you by introducing a few new picture books.

ROAWR! by Barbara Joose
When Liam hears a load roar in the middle of the night, he must use all his ingenuity to protect his sleeping mother from a hungry bear.
Mouse was Mad by Linda Urban
Mouse struggles to find the right way to express his anger, modeling the behavior of Hare, Bear, Hedgehog, and Bobcat, only to discover that his own way may be the best way of all.
One-Dog Canoe by Mary Casanova
A girl and her dog set out in their canoe one morning, only to be insistently joined by a series of animals, large and small.
*So far this is Miss Jamie's favorite in the new picture book catergory
Art's Supplies by Chris Tougas
In this delightful tale of the power of the imagination, Art's suppiles come to life in the studio, creating mayhem and magic--and art! Pastels, pencils and paints, crayons, brushes and markers, everything gets in the act of creating a mess-terpiece of fun.
May There Always Be Sunshine by Jim Gill
Jim's book begins with the first four lines of a traditional Russian folk song.
May there always be sunshine.
May there always be blue skies.
May there always be Mama.
May there always be me.
The rest of the book is filled with thoughts children have shared during Jim's concerts throughout the country.

I am looking forwarding to sharing more stories with you throughout the summer!
Miss Jamie
