New Picture Books 5/12/08

The Youth Services Department is gearing up for our Summer Reading Program which begins June 9th! We are receiving new picture books every day and Miss Jamie is going to give you a sneak peek at some fun new titles. Here we go...

The Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen
The pout-pout fish believes he only knows how to frown, even though many of his friends suggest ways to change his expression, until one day a fish comes along that shows him otherwise.

Fine As We Are by Craig Hall
Little Frog was living happily with his mom on the pond—just the two of them. Then some strange things began to happen: blobs of black spots appeared in the water, which grew squiggly tails and started swimming. Before too long it’s very clear: mom has a multitude of new frog babies. How will Little Frog ever cope?

Puppies and Piggies by Cynthia Rylant
Rhyming text describes what various animals do and what they love, as well as a baby who loves his bed and his mother.

Timothy and the Strong Pajamas by Viviane Schwarz
After his mother mends his favorite pajamas, Timothy finds that he has super strength and decides to use it to help others, but when the pajamas rip again, he loses his strength just when he needs it most.

Bat's Big Game by Margaret Read MacDonald
The Animals and Birds are getting ready for the big game. Bat wants to WIN WIN WIN-which team will he play on?
The Animals look strong and fast, so Bat picks that side. A bat has fur and teeth, after all.
But when the Animals fall behind, Bat switches to the Bird team-doesn't a bat have wings? Maybe the Birds will win!
Silly Bat learns a lesson about team spirit.

I hope you enjoyed these sneak peeks and I can't wait to share more stories with you this summer. See you soon!
