Friday, June 10

Designed for 5th and 6th Grade students, each session teaches fundamental principles in an entertaining format, through demonstrations and hands-on activities. June Session: Design and make your own kite. Weather permitting, we will go outside to test them! Register online or call 440-250-5471.

Saturday, June 11

Do you love Manga, Anime, or Japanese culture? If you do, this club is for you! Each month we watch a different Anime series, talk about our favorite Manga. Sometimes we even throw in some crafts, trivia, or Japanese treats just for fun! For grades 7-12 only! Saturday, June 11 (3:00pm-5:00pm).

Wednesday, June 15

Learn basic cooking skills with fast, simple, no-bake recipes just for kids! For students with special needs and their typical peers. Register online or call 440-250-5471. Wednesday, June 15 (4:00pm-4:45pm).

Thursday, June 16

Learn about circuits while making scribbling, jiggling drawing machines. Register online or call 440-250-5471. Thursday, June 16 (2:00pm-3:00pm). Attendee must be between the ages of 9 years and 12 years old.

Monday, June 20

Bring your A-game and your best team as we kick off the summer with a round of pub trivia! Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and snacks and refreshments will be provided. Register online or call 440-250-5462. Monday, June 20 (6:30pm-8:30pm).

Summer Reading Rules

Birth to age 2

Complete all 15 activities by August 1 to receive a free book courtesy of Friends of Porter Public Library.

Ages 3-5

  • Keep track of the books you have read.
  • When you read 5 books, come in for prize #1.
  • Repeat twice more for more rewards!
  • When you're all done, hand your reading log to a librarian to be entered into a grand prize drawing!
  • Keep reading! Each additional five books read qualifies you for another chance at a grand prize!

School age (entering grades 1-5)

  • Keep track of the time you spend reading and have a grownup initial your reading log for every 30 minutes you read.
  • When you reach 5 hours of reading, come in for prize #1.
  • Repeat for another reward!
  • When you're all done, hand your reading log in to a librarian to be entered into the grand prize drawing!
  • Keep Reading! Each additional two hours of reading qualifies you for another chance at a grand prize!


Kids Summer Reading

Book Buddies

For kids entering grades 1-4
Tuesdays 2:30-3:00 pm
June 14-July 26

Teen volunteers will help kids retain their reading skills during summer vacation. This program is designed for children who need extra help building their reading skills and is not a tutoring service. Teen Book Buddy volunteers are neither expected nor trained to correct learning problems or to teach children to read. Register online or call 440-250-5471.

Summer Brain Games

For kids entering grades 1-4
Tuesdays 3:00-4:00 pm
June 14-July 26

Keep up your skills during summer vacation! Drop in each week for grade-appropriate educational games and activities. Teen volunteers and staff from the Westlake City Schools will be on hand to assist. Parents of children under age 9 are required to remain in the library. No registration required.


How It Works...

Pick up your Summer Reading Passport at the Youth Services desk. There are stamps featuring a selection of activities (including reading). For each activity that you complete, check off or color in that stamp.

  • After you’ve colored in 8 circles, come in for your first prize.
  • After you’ve colored in 16 circles, come in for your final prize and to enter the Grand Prize raffle.

Activity Bonus...

There are 22 stamps. You only need to complete 16 stamps (a.k.a. activities) to get your prizes but If you want to complete all 22 activities you will get two more Grand Prize entry slips!


Rewards will be available starting the following dates:

  • Prize 1—Monday, June 13
  • Prize 2—Monday, June 20

The last day to collect prizes is Monday August 1. Grand prize winners will be drawn at the Wrap-up Party on August 5. If the winners are not present they will be notified by phone on Saturday, August 6.

Do You Want Even More Grand Prize Entries?

Just because you complete your activity sheet doesn’t mean you can't still do things for extra entries! For every 2 hours you read after you've completed your activity log, you'll get another Grand Prize entry slip.

Paint & Pop: Painting Party

Thursday, July 28 (4-6pm). Grades 7-12. Register online or call 440-250-5471.

Sip on yummy carbonated drinks while you dip your brushes and create a beautiful work of art!  Mobile Art Party will lead us, step-by-step, through a painting that you can make all your own. All supplies and refreshments will be provided for you!

The library’s Summer Reading Program is not just for kids! Adults can also join in the fun by reading for prizes and attending our line-up of entertaining (and yes, even educational!) programs. Here’s how it works:

  • Sign up at any public service desk or on the online calendar.
  • Read or listen to any book or attend a program.
  • Fill out an entry form either in person or online.
  • Drop entry into the box (or click the Submit button).
  • Repeat.
  • Prize winners will be drawn each week!
