The Sports Section - UPDATES - 6/20/2012

Congratulations to the Kent State University Golden Flashes for their outstanding baseball season and the school's first appearance ever in the NCAA College World Series!  Their season ended in a loss to the two-time defending champions - the South Carolina Gamecocks.

In progress now is the Euro Cup tournament, featuring football (soccer) teams from all over Europe.  This event is held every four years in the even-numbered year between the World Cup championships.  The 2008 defending champion is Spain, which also won the World Cup in 2010.

The Euro Cup's Final Tournament, the Group Stage, consists of 31 matches played by 4 groups of 4 teams who have advanced from the early rounds.  The tournament is being played in 8 venues, 4 in each of the two host countries, Poland and Ukraine.  The final match will be held on July 1 in Kiev, Ukraine.



NBA Draft - June 28 - the Cleveland Cavaliers currently have the 4th and 24th picks in the first round.

Wimbledon Championship - June 25-July 8, Wimbledon, England.  Defending champions: Novak Djokovic and Petra Kvitova.

MLB All-Star Game - July 10, Kansas City.  Defending champions - National League.

The OPEN (aka the British Open) - July 19-22, Royal Lytham and St. Annes in Lancashire, England.  Defending champion is Darren Clarke.

The Summer Olympics - July 27-August 12, London.
