Myrna Chelko Volunteer Award

The Myrna Chelko Volunteer Award is given annually to a library volunteer who has contributed to the success of Westlake Porter Public Library as an inclusive environment that fosters learning, community growth and connection in an ever-changing world. Over the years, hundreds of people have volunteered at WPPL to shelve materials, staff the Book Nook and the Book Sale, assist in the Youth Services department, and much more.

Alice Lang received the Myrna Chelko Volunteer Award at the library's Volunteer Appreciation Reception on May 1, 2024. The award is given annually to the volunteer who best demonstrates the spirit of volunteerism exemplified by its namesake, Myrna Chelko.

Myrna Chelko with the award in her nameMyrna Chelko was a long-time library volunteer who was known for her dedication to the library and her hard work. She helped found the Friends of Porter Public Library and her many volunteer services include being an officer of that group and a Library Board member. Myrna exemplified the volunteer spirit, which is why the award was created in her name.
