Early Literacy

Our early literacy based programs can be valuable tools in developing essential skills like:

  • Vocabulary: knowing the names of things
  • Print Awareness: noticing print everywhere, knowing how to handle a book and knowing how to follow the words on a page
  • Narrative Skills: the ability to describe things and events and tell stories
  • Print Motivation: a child’s interest in and enjoyment of books
  • Phonological Awareness: the ability to hear and play with the smaller sounds in words
  • Letter Knowledge: knowing that letters are different from each other and that they have different names and sounds

Our programs combine these tools with the Five Simple Practices of

  • Talking
  • Reading
  • Singing
  • Writing
  • Playing

recognized by the Every Child Ready to Read® program as critical to developing language and pre-reading skills. We welcome children of all abilities and are committed to providing all children the opportunity to learn.
