Gain necessary computer skills through instruction and play. Test out with a staff member to earn a free prize from the Makerspace. Grades 3-6.
Attendees will learn basic computer skills through direct instruction followed by open lab time to practice. During open lab time, students may access Fiero Code or edclub TypingClub. Caregivers are required to attend the start of a session to support students logging into their desired open lab website, until mastery is obtained. If you have already created a Fiero Club or edclub account, your child must have their log-in information.
Fiero Code is an online software program that teaches you how to code through hundreds of coding tutorials and dozens of real world projects. edclub TypingClub teaches touch typing for quick and efficient typing.
Skills addressed in these sessions include: how to use a mouse, navigate simple keyboard tasks, learn how to identify an internet browser, and log in using an email address and password. These common computer skills will help your student successfully navigate school and play. Students who show mastery of a skill to our staff will earn a sticker on a gameboard. A completed gameboard earns the student a free prize from the Makerspace. You do not have to attend every session to test out of a skill and you are welcome to practice at home.
