Phase 2 Renovations - August 2024–Winter 2024

Westlake Porter Public Library has announced that the second phase of building improvement projects aimed at providing new services to the community as well as to enhance the visitor experience. The projects are a result of the strategic and space planning process the library completed in 2021, including feedback solicited from the community during public sessions and through surveys. The projects include creating a dedicated Young Adult area in the Youth Services Department, opening of the second floor to the public and reorganization of the Circulation Department. In addition, coffee service along with other vending options will also return to the library in a self-serve model. 

Construction costs will be approximately $1.6 million with, to date, $70,000 coming from donations. The project will be paid for from the library’s Permanent Improvement Fund which are funds specifically set aside for projects such as these. 

Services impacted:

Holds

Please ensure you select your correct hold location when placing holds. Picking up holds in the wrong location will result in delays. Call one hour prior to a hold pick up to confirm your location if you are unsure at 440-871-2600 and select option 1, or access My Account. 

Drive-Up Window Services 

Please call ahead at 440-871-2600 option 1 when picking up 3D prints, print jobs, or other special items from the Drive-Up window to avoid delays. Items returned via the drive-up window may remain on your account for up to 24 hours. No fines will be charged.

Meeting Rooms Reservations 

Meeting Room and Study Room Use may be limited during construction. Call ahead ahead to book and ensure availability 440-871-2600 option 3.

This new area will create a welcoming designated space for our Young Adults to enjoy the library in a comfortable and engaging environment.

Updates include:

  • Two new large monitors for gaming and events
  • New PC workstations
  • Improved shelving for the Young Adult collection
  • Flexible and comfortable seating
  • Tables for group seating
  • Design features that minimize sound transmission

Circulation

The Circulation Area renovation will include:

  • New reorganization of the layout to allow patrons to return their materials directly into the sorter machine for immediate check-in.
  • New passport office. 
  • Direct line of sight from the desk to the drive thru window to allow for a more efficient workflow. 

Second Floor 

Second floor renovations will allow patrons access to the second floor of the library. Updgrades include:

  • Additional seating areas and work spaces
  • Two additional meeting room spaces that willl be available for programming and patron use. 

Vending Area 

The new vending machines will be located near the Welcome Desk. It will include a coffee service along with other vending options in a self-serve model.
