Ed Chuhna, an expert in International Relations and a previous presenter to the World at War Forum, will discuss the path that led to the Japanese attack on the U.S. fleet stationed at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii in December 1941. The years preceding the attack saw a breakdown in American relations with the Japanese Empire. Beginning with the invasion of Manchuria, Japan had become more militarily aggressive which threatened territories occupied by European powers. American sanctions and embargoes cut off needed raw materials for Japan fueling a desire to expand their reach into other areas to get more resources.
