Join Craig Caldwell as he shares his birdwatching experiences from all over the world, as well as general advice for beginning birders and enthusiasts.
"I hope to leave you with some understanding of why I do what I do both with birds and for them. And for those whose interest I’ve piqued, I’ll have tips on how to start, and continue, bird-watching. Spoiler alert: The only absolute requirement for birding is desire."
Craig Caldwell's path from general nature-appreciator to hard-core birder began in earnest in college. His passion for birdwatching took him all over the US, the American tropics, Africa, and beyond. In this presentation, he will talk about his travels as well as share general advice on birdwatching. Birdwatching has given him a deep appreciation for birds—their unique physiology, the wonders and mysteries of migration, their marvelous vocal skills, surprising finds from genetic research, and the urgent need to conserve the places they pass through and live in.
Craig Caldwell, now retired, was a chemist in the environmental testing industry for 20 years. He was also a self-employed real estate investor and renovation contractor. He is a member of the Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society, the National Audubon Society (Christmas Count editor for Ohio 2016-2023), Kirtland Bird Club, Ohio Ornithological Society, Black Swamp Bird Observatory, American Birding Association, The Nature Conservancy, Cornell Lab of Ornithology, American Bird Conservancy, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Roger Tory Peterson Institute, Neotropical Bird Club and African Bird Club.
