Join Suzanne Rusnak as she leads us through a discussion of medical and surgical advances made during the US Civil War.
At the start of the American Civil War medicine can best be described as primitive. Doctors were poorly trained and little was understood about infectious diseases Of the doctors serving in the peace time army (slightly over 100), approximately 25% took the side of the Confederacy. Despite this dismal beginning many organizational, medical and surgical advances were made that lasted well into the twentieth century. The presenter, Suzanne Rusnak, was a biology teacher in the Parma City Schools for thirty years and has taught for ten years at the Cuyahoga Community College Lifelong Learning Program.
